The Old Carriage House
Managed by Classic Cottages
This delightful conversion is on the edge of a family-run dairy farm deep within the mid-Devon landscape. This superb property boasts a panoramic outlook over open countryside which can be best enjoyed from the first floor balcony seating-area. Whether spending blissful nights watching the sunset, or bright sunny mornings enjoying the sun rising, this magical space will be a treat.
Internally, this beautiful retreat has been lovingly furnished, ensuring every detail has been thought of. The two gorgeous king-size bedrooms can be found on the ground floor offering flexible sleeping arrangements, with bedroom two being a 'zip and link'. Bedroom one benefits from an en suite shower-room with an additional shower-room opposite bedroom two - so no queuing for the shower here! Both bedrooms also benefit from wonderful countryside views.
Whipping up a feast in the fabulous kitchen will prove a pleasure for chef, before retiring upstairs to relax and unwind in the spacious living-area, equipped with an electric wood-burner effect stove perfect for those chillier nights in. However, in the summer it's all about flinging open those patio doors, grabbing a snuggle rug and heading out to the large balcony to soak up your superb surroundings. Whilst you will feel deeply emersed in the countryside, it is always a delight to hear the rumbles of the nearby dairy parlour at milking time, along with having the friendly owners close by to aid you with any requests, especially when it comes to enjoying and exploring your fabulous surroundings. You really do have the best of both worlds.
You also have the benefit of a delightful seating-area with a gas barbecue as well as a fire-pit on the ground floor - being fully enclosed by the picket fence it's the perfect zone for your four-legged friends. For the more energetic of our canine friends, the fields which surround you are at your disposal.
The Old Carriage House is located along a country lane, with newly laid tarmac all the way and plenty of passing places. It will set the scene for the tranquility you will find at this lovely, detached property.

We had a fantastic stay at the Old Carriage House. It was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The view from the upstairs terrace was stunning. Thank you so much for a relaxing stay and for all the little extras from the delicious brownies and orange juice on arrival to the popcorn for the kids. We would definitely recommend.

We had an amazing and very comfortable stay at the Old Carriage House. One of the most beautifully furnished properties we have stayed in.
As a family of four plus a dog, we had everything we could ask for. The property is very well equipped and to a very high standard. We even had fans in each of the bedrooms to keep us cool during the few days we had a heatwave.
A lot of thought and care has been taken by the owners to ensure a wonderful stay. Even our lab had his own bed and a hamper of goodies on arrival.
The upstairs living space was very comfortable and spacious for the four of us, and the view from the balcony was breathtaking.
We had a wonderful and very relaxing stay, thank you.

We eventually managed to find the property which is sandwiched between the owners house and dairy cattle sheds. The new conversion is appealingly done. There is a lovely view from the upstairs open terrace. We appreciated the scones and cider etc on arrival.
A major challenge here is noise. Milking starts very early and reversing bleeping tractors feeding silage to the cattle begins around 8.30pm and is far from conducive to a holiday lie in. Clarity as to where dogs are allowed in and outside the house seems needed. Although surrounding fields are mentioned there are no maps to suggest where dogs might be welcome, on or off the lead. The patio with BBQ and fire pit is feet from the facade of the owners house and simply not sufficiently private. Nor is the properly dog/child secure. The adjoining sloping paddock is useful and dogs may be walked ‘on leads’ yet it is open to the traffic in the byway.
The main drawback within the house is the lack of a freezer. A small larder fridge could not contain our supermarket delivery during a very hot five day stay.
