The Swallows
The Swallows, a fabulous rural retreat awaits. Nestled in the most picturesque countryside, surrounded by the most special sights and sounds mother nature can offer, along with being furnished and finished to an extremely high standard, this lovingly restored barn is such a special holiday retreat.
Teeming with nature, the breathtaking grounds which surround The Swallows are second to none. Hours of joy are to be had relaxing and unwinding within the grounds in the day, and by night, The Swallows takes on an equally magical feel. Wrap up in a rug, pop a bottle of something tasty and prepare to be dazzled by unrivalled and unspoilt night sky views, I'm sure you can spot every galaxy going! However, you're not alone, your friendly field residents will most certainly put in an appearance, from owls swooping by, Mr Fox on his travels, along with deer, hares and rabbits coming out to play, you will really feel at one with nature. Not forgetting the stars of the show, the swallows, who have been nesting here for a number of years and take up residency from late spring until the end of the summer. These glorious birds make for very entertaining neighbours.
In the day, swing open the large bi-fold doors, which deliver you onto your patio-area and garden. Spark up the barbecue or simply sit back and soak up your majestic surroundings, whilst the little ones potter off to explore, or perhaps they will only get as far as the games-room, which holds hours of fun, especially on a damp day.
Retiring to the barn at night is also a real pleasure. This characterful barn is light, airy, and designed with comfort and style in mind, with under-floor heating throughout. The beautiful open plan setting of the living area is set perfectly for those family nights in, whether it be cuddling on the sumptuous sofas in front of the glowing wood-burner, or playing games galore, this superb space is perfect. The extravagant design of the barn means that you have oodles of space, giving your living area a light and airy feel due to the vast array of windows and the super height of the ceilings.
The bedroom configuration has also been designed with the ultimate comfort in mind. Bedrooms one and two have toilet facilities neighbouring the bedrooms, with the mezzanine level bedroom boasting a super-king bed, TV, and the most wonderful views over Dartmoor to wake up to.

Mrs Clarke
Beautiful barn conversion. Watching the Swallows and wildlife with no road noise was just amazing. Bed very comfortable and crisp white fresh linen. Very well equipped with everything you need. Shower is really good and lots of hot water. Two fridges and a freezer. One is a fridge with freezer below the other is a normal fridge. We used the normal fridge for cooling drinks and the fridge freezer for storing food. The grounds are huge but not totally enclosed. This was not a problem for us as our Working German Shepherd does not wonder. Good Smart TV with Netflix, Prime and more. WORTH NOTING - It took a few days to work out that if you push the home key on the remote you will get all the different Smart TV apps. During our stay Devon Highways did repair some of the potholes in the lane leading to the cottage but not all of them. This wasn’t an issue for us as we have a Landrover Defender. The neighbours renting the main farmhouse behind the property do not take away from your privacy at all. We had a beautiful relaxing holiday and would highly recommend.

Lovely barn conversion. Very comfortable bed on the mezzanine level. We didn’t use the other beds. Smart TV for the evening. Log burner with starter kit but we didn’t need that as it was warm. It is off the beaten track which we and our dog loved. Very quiet and peaceful and our dog loved the freedom of the paddock and garden. The paddock is not fenced in but it is private and our dog doesn’t roam from us so that was fine for us. The main farmhouse is behind you but they left us to enjoy our privacy and you couldn’t even tell if they were there or not most of the time. Just the odd mower sound or very young child playing which was actually pleasant to hear. As it says in the details the lane is very bumpy with potholes so an SUV or Landrover is best for this place. I love the homely feel of the place. It is a beautiful wild life haven with swallows flying around and chittering - hence its name Swallow Barn. All you hear is bird song as it is away from any traffic noise. It’s wonderful I would highly recommend for peace and tranquility.
Mrs Panton
We loved our stay at The Swallows. It is a beautiful space and catered for all of our needs. The kitchen has everything you could imagine needing and it is a great place to sit and have a morning coffee with light pouring through the huge windows. Our boys (11 and 13) enjoyed having the outdoor games room. Even on very rainy days, there was plenty to keep us occupied - games, books, jigsaws, DVDs. The bedrooms were all comfortable and the sitting area is a great place to cosy up once darkness descends. It’s not too far to the coast, there are lots of walks locally and we hired bicycles in Okehampton. For us, it was perfect!
Mr Wellington
The Swallows exceeded our expectations and was a fantastic base for us and our dogs. It was a beautiful property with great outdoor facilities and is one of the best overall properties we have stayed in with our dogs in many years. We will definitely be returning.
Mr Lang
This is a magical get away from it all location for both adults, kids and superb for a well behaved dog with it's grounds. The conversion has been done so well, equipped with everything you need for a relaxing break. Spreyton near by is a great Inn for real ales and food with very attentive Landlord and daughter with staff, so welcoming with your dog.
Mr Hawthorn
The Swallows is a lovely spacious, well equipped, quiet, child friendly barn conversion in the countryside. We had a great stay and we would all love to return again.
Mrs Keibek
WOW!! What a fantastic barn conversion. We were blown away by the design of the barn itself and its interior. Beautiful location, very quiet, but lots to see and do. Highly recommended.
Mr Pammant
Beautiful Barn conversion with fantastic light throughout, peaceful rural location comfortable with well stocked kitchen equipment and amazing views. Lumpy track approach but worthwhile the riding the bumps & dips. Drive slow.
Mr Gardiner
We rented the cottage over the New Year as 3 couples with children and 1 dog and found the property to be exactly what we were looking for. The kitchen has excellent equipment for toddlers, the lounge was well equipped with games, toys and books for all ages. All the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and equipped with hairdryers and towels. The lane to the property is very uneven so a struggle for smaller cars. Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable mini break at The Swallows and would highly recommend.
Mrs Smith
Stunning cottage in a beautiful setting, very peaceful and relaxing. Cottage is spacious and welcoming. Great location to visit all around the area, not far from a lot of places and beaches. Very handy having the extra games room and lots to do in the living area (puzzles, chess, games for all ages). The drive to the cottage is not suitable for anything other than an SUV - very uneven tracks and overgrown hedges.
