Halcyon Cottage
Managed by Classic Cottages
Less than one mile from Lulworth Cove, part of the only World Heritage Site in England, Halcyon Cottage is a pretty, detached stone cottage in the heart of the village of West Lulworth. Right from the door you can head out to the coast path and find your way to the pebble beach and peaceful blue waters of Lulworth Cove.
This former Women's Institute Hall has a wealth of history and characterful features. Stepping through the front door, there is a handy porch that is perfect for leaving wellies and coats in after bracing walks on the coast path. The sitting-room has space for all of the family and the lovely wood-burner means it stays cosy throughout the year. The downstairs shower-room offers great flexibility for guests.
Heading up to the first floor, the bedrooms are modern and bright and the family bathroom is complete with bath and separate shower cubicle.
Outside from the kitchen stable-door, there is a small seating-area that is in a courtyard which is shared with two neighbouring residential cottages. In this area there is also parking for one car. The area provides a lovely sunny spot for a morning coffee but please note it is not enclosed and the two neighbouring cottages do drive their cars in and out of the courtyard.
Babes in arms up to six months old are welcome, and one small to medium-sized dog will be accepted from 7 August 2026.

We had a nice break, mainly due to the location of the cottage, as the cottage itself was the first one of Classic Cottages that did not live up to our expectations. It was a bit like “the curate’s egg”, good in some places, not so good in others.
Dr Moore
This is a lovely cottage in a lovely area. Lots of thoughtful touches, like olive oil as well as other basics and a lovely welcome hamper. Very comfortable bed. Hosts are responsive and very helpful. The village was quiet with lots of lovely walks nearby as well as some very touristy areas. Will definitely return.
Only challenge was charging my EV. There is a hotel locally where you can charge if there charger is not in use by the guests but it is slow so I lost a bit of time one day. You need to be registered with Pod Point.
Mr. Lüling
My Family and me, we like this Cottage very much. A Lot of really nice Details in every room. The Kirchen fully equipped. Short way to the sea... We enjoy our time there and look forward to coming back.

This is a lovely cottage, with two bedrooms, and a luxury feel to it, well situated for Dorset explorations, especially geological features, coast and countryside. We also had a brilliant day in Dorchester at the Museum and Art Gallery. It has everything that you could want for a self catering stay, (and we have used lots) except a private outside space. However if you want to leave the car then the pub and the Limestone Hotel are in very easy walking distance for drinks and meals, and Lulworth Cove with all it has to offer is also an easy walk. The Welcome pack was a big hit with us and we used it all!
Ms Mercer
The cottage was bigger than we expected, and very well stocked, in terms of kitchen equipment and a very nice welcome hamper. And it was so great to have basics like washing up liquid, tea towels, enough loo paper and additional bin bags - not all rental cottages do, and although we usually bring a basic set of these with us, I invariably forget something. This was so practical and helped our stay, it made it so much easier to look after this lovely property while we were there.
It was quite expensive for a short break, but overall, good value for money, and in a great location. I do recommend to read the guidance about parking, so you know what to expect
Mrs Bailey
We loved Halcyon cottage. It is warm and cosy and we spent many evenings snuggled in front of the wood burner. The cottage is well equipped and beautifully decorated whilst retaining some of the original features. It is a short walk down to Lulworth Cove and a slightly longer but strenuous walk to Durdle Door which is spectacular and well worth the effort! There is an amazing pub, The Castle Inn, just 2 minutes walk from the cottage where we had several meals and which we highly recommend. Beware breakfast finishes promptly at 9.15 and we missed it twice! However there is a lovely hotel in Lulworth Cove, Lulworth Lodge, that serves breakfast until 10.30! We loved our stay at Halcyon Cottage and hope to return one day.

This is the perfect location. 10 minutes walk to the Cove, 2 minutes to the local pub. The walking in the area is superb, and after a day on the coastal path this is a super comfortable house to come home to.
Ms Edwards
Beautiful cottage set in an idyllic location. Furnishings comfortable and stylish, and the cottage was so well equipped that we didn’t want for anything. Lovely and welcoming from the moment we arrived.
Mrs Parker
Lovely two-bedroomed cottage in a central location where you could walk for miles straight from the door. It had nice furnishings and was well equipped - it felt very homely. It was cosy and warm whether using the central heating or log burner. We would return.
Ms O'Leary
This is a stunning cottage, beautiful, inviting interior, everything spotlessly, clean and beautifully finished. Just a short walk down to the delightful Lulworth Cove. West Lulworth is a beautiful charming quintessential Dorset village with two excellent restaurants. Highly highly recommend.
Mr Whitlock
Our holiday started with the house not being ready when we arrived, when it was eventually handed over the bathrooms needed to be cleaned again by ourselves because they were dirty as well as having to clean the kitchen which still had breakfast crumbs on the table and counter, all the plates and cutlery needed to be washed due to it being dirty, which was a great first few hours at Halcyon cottage. The house in general was damp with the sofa, bed etc feeling damp, I assume because no heating had been on. The house overall was very dirty and obviously hasn’t been cleaned properly for a very long time, the arm chair was so disgusting and greasy you wouldn’t want to risk sitting in it for fear of catching something.
The kitchen equipment was poor to say the least with only one baking tray and we had no kettle for the first 2 days (it was broken when we arrived) so had to boil water on the stove.
The mattress on the double bed was so old and lumpy it was beyond a joke.
We have been ripped off at Halcyon cottage, which looks great in the photos, but is a dirty hole in real life.

Lovely cottage with modern interior in a good location

Firestick need faster WiFi to work at its best
Matress in master bedroom needs replacing, very uncomfortable.
Sofa is very uncomfortable.
Mechanism on dishwasher door is broken, it dropped viciously down on my leg and caused an injury | still have dressed with a plaster today.
We thought the instructions for the heating system were inadequate.
Ms McMahon
Great position for access to lulworth cove and sw coastal path to durdle door and beyond. Great food and hospitality in the local pub, the castle inn, just around the corner and impressive range of food in the local Londis shop (5 mins walk) if you fancy staying in and cooking. Really enjoyed just being able to amble down to the cove to take in the sea air and view and well positioned for day trips to Studland, RSPB Arne, Swanage and Lyme Regis.
Dr Slater
Very convenient location for the beautiful Lulworth cove
Mrs Day
We had a lovely stay at Halcyon cottage. The village of West Lulworth is very beautiful and there are some great walks from the cottage. It is great not to have to use the car.
