Sunnyside
Managed by Classic Cottages
Perfectly situated in the heart of the pretty village of Appledore, Sunnyside is a lovingly restored semi-detached cottage, beautifully furnished with comfort and relaxation in mind. The deck, overlooking the garden, has views across the Torridge Estuary while three of the four bedrooms have wonderful views across the water to Instow (the beautiful beach at Northam Burrows is five minutes' drive away).
Appledore seafront is a few moments stroll from Sunnyside down narrow, winding streets of pastel-coloured cottages. On the quay you will find a gorgeous deli, several fabulous places to eat and the seasonal passenger ferry to take you across to the golden sands of Instow. Whether you are looking for a much-needed family holiday or a getaway with friends, Sunnyside has all you need for the perfect break.
Sunnyside is set at the top of a quaint cobbled street, surrounded by similar, beautifully kept properties (the house has use of a private parking space - a real bonus in Appledore). As is usual here, access to the front door is gained down a shared footpath. A stunning, original feature front door with stained glass window welcomes you into the hallway with a beautiful, tiled floor and traditional high ceilings. The sitting-room is perfect for relaxing after a busy day with comfy sofas and a Smart TV to catch up on the latest movie. The kitchen/diner has been beautifully crafted with all the equipment you'll need, including the all-important dishwasher. Gather everyone around the refectory table to chat about the day's adventures, (you will find additional chairs in the cupboard). The kitchen leads out onto the raised deck, perfect for al fresco dining with blissful views towards the estuary. Sit on the patio with an aperitif in hand as the evening sun goes down, how lovely does that sound? A separate cloakroom with WC and basin completes the ground floor.
Climb the stairs to the first floor and three gorgeous bedrooms await, all furnished with luxurious comfy beds and linens for a great night's sleep. Bedroom one has a 'zip and link' bed giving you the choice of either twin beds or a super-king. Pretty bedroom two has a gorgeous blue velvet sleigh bed and is adorned with lovely linens and that all-important estuary view. Bedroom three is a second 'zip and link' room, great for flexibility on your holiday. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over, perfect for a long soak after a busy beach day. Stairs lead to the second floor where bedroom four awaits, an oasis of peace and tranquility. The canopy bed is simply stunning and perfectly positioned to watch the fishing boats coming in and out as the sun rises. This spacious room has an en suite bathroom making this a perfect principal room.
Outside, Sunnyside's pretty garden has a teak table and chairs for dining on the deck, a relaxing rattan sofa on the patio, plus a bistro table and chairs on the grassed lawn where the family dogs and children can let off steam. Benches offer quiet spots for a holiday read and there are two loungers for relaxing in the sun and outside storage for your beach gear and wetsuits. Whether you plan to spend your days enjoying the delights of Appledore or explore further afield, Sunnyside is a peaceful haven with all you need for the perfect holiday.

Mrs Carey
Loved the home from home feel: beautifully decorated; well equipped kitchen; extras such as brownies, flowers, wine and milk on arrival; music speaker, games etc.
Really great being able to walk to the shops, pub, deli, bakery, restaurants (fab Sunday lunch @To Royal George).
We swam in the sea pools at Bude and Westward Ho! Lovely walks to Northam Burrows, Bideford to Instow on Tarka trail. A lovely base for a family holiday.
Mr Seymour
Lovely location. It could have and should have been a wonderful holiday. We encountered issues with access which was not manged well by classic cottages in any shape or form. The cleanliness of the cottage was abysmal. Dig hairs every where. The refuse bins were full to overflowing. This review has no bearing on the owner who apologised for the access and the overflowing bins issues. Really think the cleaning company let this cottage down.
Mrs O'Hara
The house has lovely views and very comfortable. Parking is a problem if you have a big car as streets very narrow.
For the money spent, felt the garden furniture could have been better. Very old and uncomfortable. Also cushions very dirty.
Quiet location and very easy to get to the village.
Mrs Goddard
Sunnyside is a traditional, well equipped and comfortable property. The location is lovely, a very quiet historic residential area. The house has beautiful views and a pretty garden on different levels and ,if the sun is out , you can find a sunny spot there at all times of the day., so the house lives up to its name! It is just a few minutes walk to the quayside.
Parking can be a problem in Appledore, due to the nature of the old fashioned narrow streets, however, Sunnyside does have a designated parking space about one minutes walk from the property and if you are lucky you may also find a spot in the street next to the house. There is also a public car park which always had space a couple of minutes away.
It was a delight eating outside in the garden, admiring the views, totally relaxing. We enjoyed walking to the local deli and the fresh fish shed choosing some delicious things to eat.
Most of the shops and pubs are very dog friendly, providing bowls of water and dog treats.
We had some tasty meals at local pubs,The Royal George, The Beaver, and The Seagate. Some of our party went sea fishing with Cheeky Monkey boat trips and we visited the Maritime Museum which is a couple of minutes walk from the property. The quayside is great for crabbing too and It was very enjoyable listening to the local Brass Band playing here one evening whilst eating a Hockings ( local family firm) ice cream, made with clotted cream and butter, yum!
Plenty to do in the area around Appledore too, we also visited, Clovelly, Lundy Island, Bideford, Westward Ho! and Staunton Sands.
Sunnyside is an ideal property for a family holiday .
Mrs Stephens
Property not quite as described and photos of the kitchen are somewhat deceptive on actual size..
Mr Davies
This was our second stay at Sunnyside
The location In North devon is idilic as it the properties location in Appledore.
The views accross the estuary from the attic bedroom are beautiful at all times of the day and night.
A short walk down the hill to the pub which opens for breakfast and stays open all day serving quality food.
Plenty of other pubs and restaurants in the locality as well a huge beaches a short drive away which at the times of year we were there were quiet.
Mr Greenfield
A perfect house for a large family stay plus dogs. As everyone says, the views are exceptional, but you need a wonderful place to stay to appreciate them, and Sunnyside delivered on every aspect.
Mrs Ellis
Good for harbour and town.
Mrs Brant
Not quite as it looks in the photos, but a nice spot to stay.

Mrs Pegler
Well worth going.Thanks
Mrs Edwards
Sunnyside is a fabulous house and the location is so good for pubs, restaurants and just wandering down to the harbour.. Loved having breakfast on the terrace every morning with lovely views of the estuary.
Mrs Montague
This is an absolute gem of a holiday home in the centre of the charming and relatively quiet coastal town of Appledore (well it was quiet in April). House very comfortable, well equipped, beautifully and tastefully decorated - with lovely outdoor areas and stunning views to wake up to from most windows.
Lovely local deli for grocery supplies, fresh bread, meats and treats. Great selection of places to eat/drink from rustic pubs (local live music) and fab fish and chips to gourmet gastro pubs with unrivalled views across the estuary. Lovely beaches and dog walks nearby - and the amazing selection of local fresh seafood. Almost loathed to share the secret but go if you can!
Mrs Boucker
Pleasant accommodation , large spacious rooms. Kitchen on small side but had everything you need.
Please be aware of steep access lanes returning from quay back to property .
You will need your car to get to beaches and shops . Appledore has very little shops and very expensive there are lots of tea shops which is a bonus .
Mrs Peace
Beautiful house in a great location.
