The Ark
Promising a stay like no other, The Ark is an exceptional mistress of the sea, a stately boat of epic proportions offering a home for 12 lucky sea mates. Docked just a stone’s throw from the Rame peninsula, it’s a truly unforgettable homestay for exploring south east Cornwall.
As soon as you step on board this luxurious houseboat you’ll fall in love with its chic yet charming atmosphere, from the tip of Flipper the dolphin’s figurehead nose to the furthest point on the stern. With sun-soaked decks made for leisurely sundowners, an airy studio made for yoga, quiet cabins for snoozing and sumptuous spaces for gatherings, The Ark is a perfect getaway for large family gatherings or a group of friends, and it’s dog-friendly too.
Take a stroll along the walkway and step inside to discover The Ark’s gorgeous interiors, bedecked with maritime artifacts and vintage posters, carefully split into two halves – ideal if you’re a family that loves to holiday together but wants their own space.
To the right lies the Captain’s Quarters, which sleeps four. The first bedroom, The Hideout, is perfect for little swashbucklers with bunk-beds and captain’s hats, a sofa to hang out on and a TV for some down time. Further down the hall lies the Captain’s Room, home to a dreamy king-sized bed with views across the harbour, and a Smart TV. Tiptoe up the stairs to the top deck viewing platform where you can snuggle down, grab the binoculars and take in the glorious views of the harbour, river and distant hills while boats drift by. Inside, there’s a fantastic living area complete with plush grey sofas arranged for entertaining, and a large TV for when you need to switch off. Complete with a handy galley kitchen with everything you’ll need for a simple slap up meal including a kettle, toaster, coffee machine, air fryer and two-ring electric hob. The Captain’s Quarters is also complete with a shower, WC and wash basin.
Head downstairs to discover one of The Ark’s unexpected and most unique rooms – a spacious studio which can be used for blissful yoga sessions, or simply a space to chill out with a game or two of pool.
Passing through the studio you’ll find the Crew’s Quarters, the second living space of The Ark. There are four Cabin Crew bedrooms along the hallway, each with a comfy single bed and light honey-hued wooden furniture, while Cabin 5 has a romantic double bed, velvet sofa and a Smart TV, perfect for lazy lie-ins. Along the way lies the handy laundry-room with washing machine, tumble-drier, two sinks, ironing board, iron and a clothes airer. There’s also three showers and two WCs.
Make your way upstairs to find the final double bedroom, the First Mate’s Cabin, complete with an oh-so-nautical porthole overlooking the beach and a TV for late night films. Across the hallway lies two further WCs.
The kitchen for the Crew’s Quarters is both sleekly beautiful and practical for large gatherings, with two electric ovens, gas hob, air fryer, ice machine, toaster, coffee machine, large fridge/freezer and all the equipment needed to create epic celebratory meals on a grand scale. When it’s time to serve up, the dining area, overlooking the harbour, is the perfect spot for coming together and chatting about the days’ adventures. Here you’ll find banquet-style tables for grand suppers, a breakfast-bar for coffees and a chat and a corner table that’s ideal for post-meal games.
Take a step out onto the deck where you’ll discover sun-kissed spaces with spectacular views over the river and surrounding hills. Sink into the egg chair with a good book, gather around the picnic table for afternoon tea (jam first, of course), or make your way to the upper deck where sun-loungers, deck chairs, bean bag and another picnic bench await for outside gatherings. If you’re feeling adventurous, The Ark has a selection of kayaks and paddleboards for you to use, whether that’s gently paddling through the glistening waters or taking yourselves off along the coastline for a seaside adventure.

We have just returned from a wonderful week on the Ark and were all sorry to be leaving. This is a fantastic and very unusual property, extremely comfortable and very well equipped with everything you might need for your stay. The location is great, friendly but nice and quiet with plenty of free parking in the marina carpark. We were a 3 generation party of 8 and the Ark suited us all regardless of age. Shaun (the owner) met us on arrival to greet and show us around, a lovely personal touch, making us all feel very welcome. We will most definitely be returning to the Ark in the future and would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday in the Torpoint/Plymouth area.

Wow! What a fabulous stay we all had on the Ark! There were 12 of us on board from the ages of seven to seventies & impossible to say who of us enjoyed it the most. Little pirates/sailors exploring & having fun or adults enjoying sundowners on the deck whilst viewing glorious sunsets each day being just a sample of the whole experience. Thank you Shaun & team!

Had a lovely time on board. Would recommend to anyone for a holiday or special occasion

OMG what can I say. Booked for my 60th Birthday AMAZING. Absolutely loved every minute and sad to leave. It was fully equipped with what we needed and more. All the beds were so comfortable and nothing spared on keeping high standards with everything. Everything you need within walking distance. I promise anyone who books The Ark won’t be disappointed. The only thing disappointing was that we had to leave. ??

This place was amazing, we were a party of seven and there is lots of room. The views and quiet location were stunning. The boat was well equipped with everything you could think of and lovely comfy beds. The welcome hamper and fruit bowl was a welcome extra touch.
